With RMSO since Season 1
Dan Zhang has been an avid violinist for 15 years. He completed his RCM violin certifications with first class honours and holds a degree in biology and music from the University of Calgary. As a student, Dan has competed in a variety of music competitions, including the Calgary Performing Arts Festival (formerly Calgary Kiwanis Festival) and was the 2013 Alberta Gold Medalist, having achieved the highest mark in his grade. Dan loves teaching violin both privately and with his local music studio, and has been teaching since 2015.
Dan has ample orchestral experience. He began with the Mount Royal University Conservatory Strings program and has been involved in orchestra ever since. Dan has served as principal 2nd violin of the UCalgary orchestra for 2 years, was a featured violinist in the UCalgary World Music Ensemble, and has been with the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra since Season 1. In addition, he has played in chamber ensembles, appeared at various weddings and commercial gigs, and has put on volunteer performances in hospital wards.
Dan strongly believes in the vision of the RMSO and is excited to have the opportunity to share his love of classical music with smaller communities that otherwise wouldn’t have the chance.
