With RMSO since Season 1
Active as a orchestral musician, soloist, chamber music partner, and teacher, Jonathan Gresl enjoys sharing his love of the bassoon with music lovers everywhere. A native Calgarian, Jonathan grew up in Vermont, where he gained attention as a member of the US National High School Honors Orchestra and as a soloist with the Vermont Youth Orchestra. He performed in a dozen US states, Mexico, Cuba and Brazil before moving back to Alberta to obtain two music degrees from the University of Calgary.
Jonathan joined RMSO in season 1 and was especially pleased to play Weber’s Bassoon Concerto alongside his RMSO colleagues. Other soloist appearances include multiple performances with UCalgary ensembles, Calgary Arts Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic as part of the RBC Concerto competition finals.
Outside the RMSO, Jonathan is principal bassoon of the Symphony of the Kootenays and has performed with the Red Deer Symphony, Calgary Opera, Alberta Winds, and many other local groups.
He is proud to be a member of the wind quintet PERFECT CADENCE. In addition to public concerts, the group gives interactive, multidisciplinary programs in schools connecting the art and science of music and sound.
In Fall 2019, Jonathan was named bassoon instructor at the University of Lethbridge.
