Jay Michalak

Principal Trumpet

With RMSO since Season 1

Solo trumpet with the internationally recognized Foothills Brass Quintet and finalist at the Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Competition, Jay Michalak is in high demand as one of North America's leading trumpeters. Mr. Michalak completed musical studies at Northwestern University (B. Mus.), University of British Columbia (M. Mus.), the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the Banff Centre. 

He has performed with the Chicago Civic Orchestra, Tacoma Symphony, Bellevue Philharmonic, the Lyric Brass Quintet (Pacific Lutheran University, WA), the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps, Ensemble Noir (Toronto), Altius Brass, the Kensington Sinfonia, the Calgary Bach Society, Keybrass and most recently the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Prime Time Big Band. 

Jay is also very active as an arranger and is a committed pedagogue, spending as much time as possible working with the next generation of musicians. Jay teaches Secondary Music at West Island College in Calgary.
